Call for Inputs: Book on Global Energy Policy and Security
Prof. Walter Leal Filho (Head of Research and Transfer Centre, Applications of Life Science Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany) and Dr. Vlasios Voudouris (Deputy Director Centre for International Business and Sustainability London Metropolitan Business School) are seeking contributons for a a new book with the title:
"Global Energy Policy and Security."
The book aims to represent a multidisciplinary perspective. Therefore, contributions from energy economics and agent-based computational economists working in the field of energy markets are particularly welcome. For example, a book chapter will be based on the Agent-based Computational Economics of the Global Energy System (ACEGES - http://www.aceges.org) project as a way of demonstrating the use of the agent-based computational economics (ACE) for exploratory energy policy by means of controlled experiments. JELARE book publication on renewable energy market needs is now available

The comprehensive report on the findings of the JELARE labour market survey is now available in book form as Renewable energy market needs: a perspective from Europe and Latin America, edited by the JELARE partners José Baltazar Salgueirinho Osório de Andrade Guerra and Youssef Ahmad Youssef from UNISUL. The book not only covers the results of the labour market survey undertaken in each JELARE country (Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Guatemala and Latvia), it also provides a transnational comparison of all the results, as well as a general overview of the renewable energy situation in each partner country.

JELARE showcased during Hamburg Latin America Day
17th-18th October 2011

Under the patronage of Mayor Olaf Scholz of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Latin American business association (LAV e.V.), a Germany-wide operating business association representing decision-makers from the trade, logistics, finance and law sector, organized
the Latin America Day in Hamburg with more than 400 decision-makers taking part in the event. In addition, the LAV is an active contributor of the
official Latin-American business initiative initiated by the German government, fostering the mutual understanding of Latin American and European actors. The 2-day event featured a range of JELARE's key themes, such as Renewable Energy and Technology Transfer. In the frame of the accompanying fair, JELARE's Hamburg team disseminated information about JELARE, informed about current and upcoming activities and invited
interested stakeholders to join the JELARE network.
UNISUL and JELARE Project promote a seminar about Renewable Energies in Brazil

A group of 20 graduate students in Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, one of the most prestigious U.S. universities, visited UNISUL and participated in a seminar of the project JELARE (The Joint European-Latin American Universities Renewable Energies Project) dedicated to the study of the Brazilian energy matrix and the development of Renewable Energy in Brazil.

The SOLAR-HOME-SYSTEM is finally finished

In July 2011, the SOLAR-HOME-SYSTEM, which was developed by a small group of students under the guidance of Professor Kampschulte, was finally finished and can now be deployed locally, as an illustration and exercise tool in our courses and lab exercises in renewable energy at HAW Hamburg. As the name suggests, the system generates solar energy and stores it in a small battery. Different electrical equipment such as a small fridge, TV, light bulbs and laptop are connected to the battery to simulate a household.

Inauguration of the Renewable Energy Technology Demonstration Centre

On 8th April 2011, the Renewable Energy Technology Demonstration Centre which has been implemented by the Bolivian Catholic University in the frame of Pilot Module 2 “Technology and Knowledge Transfer for Rural Energisation with Renewable Energies” has been officially inaugurated at the Rural Academic Unit in Batallas, about two hours travel from the city of La Paz in the Bolivian Highlands.

International Pilot Module 2 Coordination Meeting

The International Coordination meeting for the joint execution of Pilot Module 2 “Technology and knowledge transfer for rural energisation with renewable energies” was held in the Bolivian Catholic University from 22nd to 25th of November, with the participation of the partners of Germany (Hamburg University of Applied Sciences) and Brazil (Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina). The meeting was aimed to present the concepts for the local implementation of Pilot Module 2 in each country, to coordinate the further cooperation and to transfer knowledge between the JELARE partners for the optimisation of the Pilot Module execution.

Education, Research & Employment in the Renewable Energy Sector

This conference and fair was specifically aimed to cover areas such as funding, initiatives and research projects in renewable energy, as well as work experience and technology transfer in the areas of renewable energy and climate change. It was organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Chile.

Local Capacity Building Seminar

The local capacity building seminar “Instructional design Introduction to E-Learning for lecturers” took place in the Bolivian Catholic University from 21st to 24th of October, 2010. In four intensive days of lectures and practical exercises, ten professors from the Bolivian Catholic University as well as three external experts were trained to increase their capacities of in the development of courses in a 100% e-learning modality.

Local Capacity Building Seminar

The local capacity building seminar “LEAP Long-range energy alternatives planning” took place in the Bolivian Catholic University, on 2nd and 3rd of September, 2010. The participants of the seminar were members of the research staff of the Institute of Socio-Economic Studies who increased their capacities in the use of the specialised software programme LEAP for their research activities in the areas of environment, climate change and renewable energies. As a result of the seminar, capacities of the research personnel of the IISEC in the use of the modelling software LEAP and its application for research projects in energy economics and policy have been increased. The participants have learned to use the different tools offered by the software and to apply them in the creation of energy demand scenarios as well as scenarios of electricity generation, transmission and distribution and for the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions related to the use of different energy sources.

The “Mercosur Post Copenhagen” Seminar, a capacity-building seminar, took place on 19 and 20 March 2010 in the Central Offi ce Auditorium of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianópolis. The seminar was a forum for public administrators, diplomats, parliamentarians, businessmen and academics to discuss renewable |
energies, regional integration and to learn what is being proposed in Brazil in order to face the consequences of climate change. In the seminar, Guilherme Cassel, Agrarian Development Minister, talked about the generation of green jobs. Speakers of the Mercosur Parliament and from institutions dedicated to regional integration, diplomacy and renewable energies represented the four MERCOSUR countries.

International Seminar on Bioenergy, Rēzeknē, 6th May 2010"

The International seminar on Bioenergy in the framework of the JELARE project successfully took place in the Latvian city Rēzeknē on the 6th May 2010. Seminar was hosted by Rēzeknēs Augstskola and was attended by members from the partner universities: Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Universidad Católica Boliviana, Universidade Do Sul de Santa Catarina (Brazil), Universidad de Chile and Universidad Galileo (Guatemala), as well as by the representatives from University of Latvia, Latvian Agricultural University, Riga Technical University and Latvian enterprises. Symposium "Renewable energy in German-Brazilian knowledge and technology transfer"
